Here are a few markets you won't want to miss in Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck.

Vienna's market dates back more than 700 years, and today there are several worth seeing. The stunning Neo-Gothic city hall is the backdrop for the main attraction, a market with more than 150 booths, ice skating, curling, choir performance, trumpet parades and a children's workshop. Dates: Nov. 16-Dec. 24, 2019; Location: Rathausplatz

At Belvedere Palace, you'll find a small market with exquisite decor and six vendors offering high-quality food for lunch and dinner. Dates: Nov. 22-Dec. 31, 2019; Location: Belvedere Palace (Prinz Eugen-Straße)

The parade grounds of the 1,400-room Schönbrunn Palace are the setting for Christmas and New Year's markets with daily jazz concerts. Dates: Nov. 23-Dec. 26, 2019; Location: Schönbrunn Palace (Schönbrunner Schloßstraße)

Salzburg isn't known only for Mozart and "The Sound of Music" — the city hosts a famous Christmas market in front of the cathedral and adjoining Salzburg Residenz (palace). Download a market map to plot your stops among the 95 booths. Dates: Nov. 21-Dec. 26, 2019; Location: Residenzplatz and Domplatz

Hellbrunn Palace's market is sometimes called a fairy-tale forest because of the 400 Christmas trees dotting the castle grounds. Warm-up and enjoy the view while sipping coffee in the conservatory. Be sure to bring little ones here for the petting zoo, train, campfire, pony rides and baking workshop. Dates: Nov. 21-Dec. 24, 2019; Location: Fürstenweg 37

The Family Market has a petting zoo, live nativity scene, puppet shows and a storyteller to amuse little ones, as well as food, cocktails and shopping for parents. Continue your adventure with a ski trip to the nearby Stubai Glacier. Dates: Nov. 15-Dec. 23, 2019; Location: Marktplatz

The architecture, traditional Christmas decorations, and snow-capped mountains make the Old Town market of Innsbruck a romantic Alpine experience. Dates: Nov. 15-Dec. 23, 2019; Location: Altstadt

To reach Innsbruck’s Hungerburg market requires a steep ascent aboard a funicular. At the summit, you’ll be greeted by wonderful food and fantastic mountain views. Dates: Nov. 16-Dec. 23, 2019; Location: Hungerburg
