Hidden gems near Aviano

If you are anything like me, you are craving summer right about now. The rain has brought  wonderful flowers of May out. However, clear skies, ocean water and the sand between my toes are calling my name. Whether you are single or married, have children or dogs or are active or relaxed, the surrounding areas of Aviano have something for everyone.

Jesolo, a beach town nestled between Aviano and Venice, can be an easy day trip full of adventure, culture, and relaxation. If you’re in a hurry to get there fast, just hop on the autostrada but be sure to bring euro for your cheap toll. If you have a little more time to spare, then I suggest driving through the small towns to see the old countryside of Italy. Taking this route may add 10-15 minutes to your trip but you can forget the toll.

Jesolo offers luxurious hotels, a variety of restaurants and of course, the beach. The beach even has a section made for dogs. If you’re not up for the beach, you can check out Aqualandia, which is a water park. Sea Life, which is an aquarium, and New Jesolandia: a park that offers games, rides, and go-karts. Jesolo can be a wonderful weekend getaway or an exciting day trip.

If you’re all about beauty, relaxation and fine dining, check out the town of Portopiccolo Sistiana. Located along the coast of the Adriatic Sea, in the gulf of Trieste, you can watch the boats pull in to the dock. Hit the spa, explore the shops, watch the sun set over the sea, and then grab a refreshing drink from the bar.

In October, the Barcolana Regatta takes place. This is a yacht racing event that happens every year. While you can see the yachts take off in Trieste, get up close and personal by visiting Portopiccolo. If you are interested in more than just watching, be sure to visit their website www.portopiccolosistiana.it.

Lastly, Wakepark Cable 7 in Treviso is a full wake boarding course on a gorgeous blue-green lake. A sport for all ages, Cable 7 will help you get started with gear and training. The friendly staff will make sure you are safe, secure and confident to take on the cable course.

Let’s say you’re not into sports. Cable 7 is on a sandy beach that you can lay out, catch some rays, and enjoy the company of friends. When you get too hot, take a dip in the lake! If you’re feeling famished or parched, make sure you visit the snack bar. Grab a meal, ice cream, mojito and head back to the sand or sit in the shade under a tent. Cable 7 accepts euro and credit cards. If you have more questions, visit their website at www.wakepark-cable7.com.

Jesolo, Portopiccolo and Treviso are all cities that are within an hour to an hour and a half from Aviano. Whether you’re looking for a vacation or a day trip adventure, these locations will not disappoint. Bring on the sports, the sand and the culture, all while staying close to home.
