Lake Como is the third-largest lake in Italy and one of the deepest in Europe. It is perfectly situated at the foot of the towering Alps in northern Italy, creating a setting so beautiful that it will take your breath away. From the waterfront villas to the jaw-dropping gardens, the local wine and cheese to the quaint cafes, Lake Como is the ideal place for a quick girls’ getaway. Pack your most fantastic outfits and get ready to take all the pictures, because this destination is beyond beautiful!

There are several villages along the lake, but consider finding lodging in Bellagio. This central village offers ample boat options to get to the other villages. Bellagio is known as the Pearl of Lake Como, and is famous for its incredible villas overlooking the water. While in Bellagio, spend time wandering around the city center through the tiny, winding streets. Stroll down Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, which has a plethora of shops and boutiques where you’ll find local food, leather goods, clothing, perfumes and more. While you’re exploring, branch out into any one of the alleys and discover even more delightful shops and cafes. Stop to admire Basilica of San Giacomo, which was built between 1075 and 1125.

After you’ve gotten a feel for the village, head to the Villa Melzi gardens. The villa itself isn’t open to the public, but you can visit the enchanting gardens. Here you’ll find a Japanese style pond, a gorgeous walking path along Lake Como, an orangery, delightful terraces, intricate statues and flower beds overflowing with colorful creations.

Since Lake Como is known for its villas, you can’t visit just one. Next up is Villa Balbianello, an 18th-century complex that has two residential buildings, a church and a portico. The inside boasts English and French furnishings from the 17th and 18th centuries, but the outside is what will really get your attention. This stunning lakefront property often hosts private events, like weddings, so you know it’s extra gorgeous. Think of the Instagram pictures you can take here with the lake glittering in the background! This location is so lovely it has been used as a set for the following movies: “A Month by the Lake,” “Casino Royale” and “Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.” Get ready to be awed by this quintessential Italian villa on the water.

Since you are in Italy, surely you must make time for ample wine and cheese. Why not combine it with a visit to Villa Monastero? Consider going on the Varenna tasting tour & visit to Villa Monastero. You can hop on a ferry right in Bellagio and learn about the surrounding scenery on your short ride. On the tour, immerse yourself in the local history of this Italian village. Varenna is home to waterfront restaurants, medieval lanes and majestic mountains. Let your senses be delighted when you view the colorful gardens of Villa Monastero. This won’t be a tour you’ll soon forget!

The best and easiest way to see all the sites of Lake Como is from the water. Hire a private boat tour and get ready to sip on a bottle of Prosecco, relax and enjoy scenery so beautiful your heart will sing. Learn about the surrounding villas from the driver, take pictures so incredible others will think they are fake and just enjoy being with your friends. After all, this trip is about you and your girls.

Exploring the villages, sipping wine at waterfront restaurants and visiting beautiful villas is sure to satisfy even the harshest of travel critics. Round up your best gal pals and get ready to laugh too loud, eat too much and have the time of your lives. There’s no way you won’t enjoy your time spent together in Italy!
