The via ferrata in Manderscheid is a fun day out near Spangdahlem Air Base. (provided by Burgenverien Manderscheid)
Let’s say you have just transferred to Germany and find yourself in the Eifel region, a rather rural area of the country.
While trying to navigate the new surroundings and getting used to the many rules in Germany, you may wonder what fun and challenging things this region has to offer.
The Manderscheid via ferrata has varying difficulty levels (provided by Burgenverien Manderscheid)
This via ferrata offers secured rock trail with stunning views located right next to a true medieval castle. It was awarded the Tourisms Prize for Rheinland-Pfalz in 2023 and is considered one of the best via ferrata courses north of the Alps.
There are three levels of difficulty to navigate. Feel free to bring your own equipment, or you may rent everything you need from the local tourist information office.
Provided that children are over 140 centimeters in height, they may want to conquer the entry level.
Nearby, the local castle is also a great place where families can enjoy a visit and go on a tour with a knight. As a thank you to U.S. armed forces stationed in Germany, the castle currently offers a discounted admission with a military ID.
Take advantage of the spring and summer weather and explore some out-of-the-way adventure that the Eifel has to offer.
Manderscheid is located about 25 minutes from Spangdahlem Air Base or Büchel Air Base. It is 1 hour 30 minutes from the Kaiserslautern Military Community and under 2 hours from the Wiesbaden area.
