Fall and winter are great times to check out Czechia. While it is a little cold outside, there are plenty of things to do, both inside and outside, and I recently had the opportunity to spend three nights in Czechia’s capital city, Prague. While three nights might not seem like enough, my spouse and I were able to hit a lot of highlights during our time there.

We drove from Pilsen to Prague, so most of the day was spent on the road. On our first night in town, we caught an English-language medieval dinner show at Medieval Tavern U Pavouka near the Old Town Square. Having been a big fan of the “Medieval Times” live events as a kid, this family-friendly experience was great. While there were no dueling knights, this show featuring live musicians, fire eaters, sword fighting, belly dancers and anachronistically placed pirates, was everything I thought it would be. In between five courses (or three, depending on the time of day of you go), you are in the middle of all of these performances. The cheesy factor is high, but so is the fun.

Our first full day in Prague, we explored the vast castle grounds while walking around in the snow that the hotel concierge said only came one or two days a year to the city (he lied, it was there all three nights). The walk to the castle from the city center is long and very steep up-hill at the end. I had to stop at least once on the way up. However, it was more than worth it. We ate at one of the oldest castle restaurants in the area, took in views of beautiful, historical architecture and learned about Czech author Franz Kafka. We spent so much time at the castle that this event lasted into the night. The castle is a popular attraction, and I recommend buying tickets online before your visit.

Our last day was packed and began walking through the Mucha Foundation Art Museum all about my favorite artist, Alfonse Mucha. His unique style is not only beautiful but also inspired an entire nation of people in the mid-20th century with his cultural and historically inspired art pieces.

After a beer tasting and early dinner at Potrefená husa Na Verandách in the Staropramen Brewery, we made our way to the St. Salvator Church for a classical music concert featuring a string quartet and soprano singer. Several of the local churches host these kinds of events throughout the week, and I highly recommend them. My only advice is to dress warmly in the winter because these are old churches and there is no heating.

We ended our last night in Prague closing down the Czech version of Dave and Busters, LEVELS. This three-story entertainment center featured five bars, food, arcade games, games where you can win tickets in exchange for prizes, mini-golf, darts, pool tables, bumper cars and bowling. We stayed for four hours and still could not do everything. We made friends with the bartender, Rufus, won tons of tickets and were able to take home an adorable stuffed animal that was not worth the money we spent, but worth every cent for the fun we had.
