While many tourists spend little time in Romania’s capital only to flock to Transylvania, make the smart choice and carve out extra time for this energetic city. With so much history, culture, diverse architecture and a mix of traditional and trendy gastronomic experiences — Bucharest has so much to offer. Be sure to cross these items off your Bucharest bucket list when visiting!

  1. Relax and unwind at Therme Bucharest.
  2. At Cișmigiu Park, the city’s oldest park, simply enjoy nature.
  3. Spend time in the heart of Bucharest, the Old Town, filled with fabulous cafes, bars and restaurants.
  4. Visit the Triumphal Arch, a historic landmark built to commemorate the reunification of Romania in 1918.
  5. Peruse through the hidden oasis of the Stavropoleos Monastery.
  6. Book lovers! Find a good read and kick back in the jaw-dropping Cărturești Carusel Bookstore.
  7. Tour the world’s second-largest administrative building, Bucharest’s Palace of Parliament.
  8. Don’t miss out on the city’s best bars — Pura Vida Sky Bar, Pasajul Victoria, Fix Me a Drink and Interbelic.
  9. Drink some of the world’s greatest wine — Tămâioasă Românească (white), Negru de Drăgășani (red) and Busuioască de Bohotin (rosé).
  10. Sink your teeth in traditional Romanian cuisine — “sarmale,” which are cabbage rolls, “ciorbă de burtă,” which is tripe soup and “mici,” which are grilled sausages.
