Summer is slowly fading to autumn, but the COVID-related cancellations of large-scale events stand firm. Throughout Germany this year, there will be no massive wine festivals or other celebrations marking the harvest.
Sorry – This isn’t meant as an exposé as to the best places to indulge in all your favorite vices while visiting amazing Amsterdam.
We’ve managed to round up a list of some smaller-scale events happening near U.S. bases. Keep an eye out for last-minute cancellations, and of course, follow the latest guidance from your command:
Garmisch-Partenkirchen
The German love affair with the potato goes far beyond the ever so popular pommes frites (French fries), Germany’s top street food smothered with ketchup and mayonnaise.
Many years ago I visited friends who lived in Paris, and due to their busy jobs, I mainly wandered the city alone. It was one of the most daunting yet exciting moments of my life. 
Berlin may be Germany’s capital with millions populating the metropolis, but Hamburg is a close runner up. This busy port city is one of Europe's independent city-states with a rich history.
Due concerns over COVID-19, the Kaiserslautern Street Food Festival has been canceled, according to the organizers. 
 
Known as the semi-official street food of Berlin, currywurst actually has some roots in Great Britain. Herta Heuwer, owner of a food stand in 1949, acquired ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and curry powder from British Troops by trading them spirits.
Anytime someone finds out I live in Germany, they assume I travel every single weekend, dine nightly on schnitzel in a castle while drinking Bier in a Dirndl seven nights a week. One of those is correct.
