There is plenty to do during your tour in Italy! From on-installation employment or education to volunteer work and travel, your time in Italy has a lot to offer.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) does not allow for dependents to work on the economy or operate home-based businesses in Italy. At Aviano, visit FFSC for support, and to update your resume or research job and volunteer opportunities. For information on employment in the Vicenza community, please call the ACS Employment Readiness Program at 0444-71-5815/5800.

  • Telework: Dependents in Italy with a Missione Visa are authorized to telework for U.S. employers.

  • Government positions: Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) and General Schedule (GS) positions are offered with MWR, FSS and command agencies. Hours range from full-time to flexible part-time with varying employment benefits. Search and apply at www.usajobs.gov.

  • DoWEA-Europe: On-installation schools offer full and part-time employment as support staff, substitute teachers and administrative employees Find certified teaching positions at: www.dodea.edu/offices/HR. Find local support positions at www.usajobs.gov.

  • Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES): For positions at AAFES facilities like the Exchange and food courts, visit www.aafes.com/Applymyexchange.

  • Defense Commissary Agency (DECA): Jobs at www.usajobs.gov.

  • Defense Contractors: Job opportunities with contractors are typically advertised via the company’s human resources department. Your installation’s contracting office and A&FRC or ACS office may have information about companies with contracts near you.

  • Telework Options: Dependents in Italy with a Missione Visa are now authorized to telework for U.S. employers. For updated information on teleworking visit home.army.mil/italy/my-garrison-italy/telework.

You can further your college education while stationed in Italy with the assistance of the Education Center. The following schools have special DoW partnerships and presence on installations and are open to all members of the Vicenza Military Community.

VOLUNTEERING

Volunteering is a wonderful way to get involved in your community. Start by making connections.

  • Your local ACS or M&FRC are hubs for activities and events around northern Italy and can help refer you to volunteer positions.  

  • For information about volunteering opportunities in the community, please call ACS Volunteer Coordinator at 0444-71-5833/5800.

  • Visit the Post Office, Red Cross and USO for opportunities. 

  • Youth Programs rely on volunteer sports coaches. 

  • Parents can get involved with the parent teacher association at the DoDEA schools. 

  • Find local spouse clubs, interest groups or sports organizations to join.
