The Benelux region is made up of three countries: Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg.
First unified by a customs agreement in 1944, the Benelux countries cooperate with each other internally to provide a unified economic zone, common environmental goals, cohesive higher education and integrated police and emergency services.
As small countries, these agreements allow their populations a wider breadth of opportunity while maintaining individual cultures and languages.
Note that some U.S. military facilities that support the Benelux region are geographically located in Germany. At the same time, some small facilities are primarily tied to external missions but receive their logistical support from the larger USAG Benelux bases.
