This poem by Kaiserslautern High School student Juliette Umeno is a poignant glimpse into the experience of a military kid.
A new place,
So close yet so far from home.
My new space,
Unlike the rooms I usually roam.
Forced to move, I want to leave,
Back to my home that I love so.
But no matter how much I believe,
I know I can’t go.
Maybe this place isn’t that bad,
It’s not home, but,
Perhaps I was just sad.
This place may have earned my trust.
This place has my new school, my new friends,
And everything else my home before had.
Now I think no home ever ends,
