When my family visited Germany in 2019, we spent a week in Bavaria- a region known for fairytale castles, alps and cows. In the fall, the colors and smell from the alps and the landscape are all breathtaking. A crisp scent from all seasons. The pine forest mix and alpine meadows gives a natural fragrance. Personally, I love Garmisch in the fall because of the crisp smells and weather. My favorite thing about Garmisch is going on zip lines and mountain coasters. The sites from the top of mountains are just breathtaking.
“There are lots of places where you can visit in Garmisch! Here are some of my family’s favorite experiences. ”
Have you ever wanted to stand on top of the world? Then visiting Zugspitze by cable car or cog rail, is a must see. Zugspitze is the tallest peak in the German Alps, at 2,962 meters high. The cost to go up Zugspitze by cable car is 63.50 euros for adults and 38.50 euros for children (6-15), and for teens (16-18) it costs 51 euros.
Did you know that Garmisch-Partenkirchen hosted the Winter Olympics in 1936? Today you can visit some of the event venues, such as the Olympic Ski Jump, which was built in 1923. We were able to visit when the German Ski Team was playing a game of futbol as a way to train during the summer months. For us non-Olympian folks, you can experience the thrill of zip lining next to the Olympic Ski Jump. My sister and I went on it together and it was so much fun! The zip line rides down the ski jump. It costs 19 euros.
If your family enjoys hiking, you can follow a trail to the Bobsledding Track. Located near a lake, the hike is an easy stroll, where you can stop for a quick snack at a cozy restaurant mid-way.
Mount Wank is a beautiful mountain to go and explore. It may be my favorite mountain in the world. The view is breathtaking. The price range goes from 7 euros to 29 euros. Now, if you’re looking for some family fun, I suggest the Kletterwald ropes course. It is located next to mount wank and cost ranges from 23-29 euro.
The last thing, and my favorite thing to do in Garmisch is the Kolbensattel alpine coaster. The ski lift up took a long time but once you are on the coaster that wait was 100% worth it. The price range is 12-16.50 euro. All of these activities are a must go. They are so much fun and worth it.
If you have seen Neuschwanstein Castle, don’t miss Linderhof Castle. King Ludwig the Second lived in Linderhof as well as Neuschwanstein Castle. Unlike Neuschwanstein, Linderhof was completely finished. I love Linderhof Castle. The gardens are beautiful. It costs 10 euro per person to go take a tour. This palace is known for its use of gold, the bedrooms, and the hall of mirrors.
Garmisch has a bunch of great food, even if you’re a picky eater you will find something you’ll love. As a picky eater, I love most of the food in Garmisch, so in case you have a picky eater too. The food here is amazing; you could never go wrong with a basic bratwurst or currywurst. My favorite is a pretzel. It’s a basic snack after a day of hiking or doing family activities.
In conclusion, Garmisch is my family’s favorite quick getaway. Garmisch has so many things to go see and do. Plus, there is so much food to try! Garmisch is beautiful no matter the season. The fresh air of smells and sights are breathtaking. I hope you also like Garmisch as much as I did!
