Many military kids struggle with the stressors of their situation. (golubovy - stock.adobe.com)
Brady wrote this as a student in Ms. Allen’s class at Kaiserslautern Middle School (SY 24-25). For this piece, Brady wrote a note to his future self.
Dear Brady,
You’re super cool.
I’d just spend this time praising you, but that’s NOT the topic. You and I both know how we feel about military life.
It sucks.
You’re constantly moving, so you can never get comfy in your house for long.
You’re always pressured to explore ‘exotic’ sights, but if you travel too much, you HATE it. Not sure about you, but we go on vacation literally every time there’s a three-day weekend.
Also, social life is practically non-existent. You move too much to make friends. No wonder military kids have higher depression rates.
And don’t forget that your true life is still in Virginia, anxiously waiting for you.
Since this might be read by a third party, I’ll say something kind. Food? I’m a picky eater. Sightseeing? Already said I hate it. And don’t even get me started on everything in writing in a 100,000 kilometer radius is in literally anything but English, even Google. At least you get on first for flights. Yeah, I’ll miss that for when you’re not forced to go to Poland or something.
In conclusion, Brady, do NOT marry someone in the military, and enjoy your life back wherever you are. I’ll be you soon.
By,
Brady from the past
