Stars and Stripes Europe has just put out the seventh edition of Dandelions magazine, which is made special for kids. Military kids are often referred to as “dandelions” because of their similarities to the flower: They are resilient and can thrive in most any environment.  Within the pages of this hands-on magazine, you will find crafts, science experiments, activities, short stories, informative articles and student submissions.

For the most recent issue, we wanted to do something a little different. Why not bring in some kids to try out the crafts and activities featured inside? So, we reached out to local elementary and middle school students, and they were excited to get involved.

In total, five local students came out and filmed three activities from our latest Dandelions magazine: creating a spooky science lab, making invisible ink and making Venetian masks.

These kids not only got a chance to be on camera but they also got to experience the behind-the-scenes action that goes into filming a video. They tested microphones. They repeated lines. They improvised. They figured out that sometimes film scripts have mistakes no matter how many editors looked it over before they began filming. They learned why we use multiple cameras. They also learned that we keep the best snacks in the break room.

Lilli describes herself as very creative and wants to be an actress when she grows up. Cash’s favorite school subjects are lunch and P.E. Auviana also likes P.E., but she likes art too because she is creative and likes to paint. Johnny’s favorite food is pizza, and he liked making the lava lamps and the invisible ink while in the Stripes’ Science Lab. Rayna’s favorite school subject is science because she likes to do science experiments.
