What's up weekend: Bavaria and Stuttgart Sept. 15-17

Wondering what to do this weekend? We've got some great events in Bavaria and Stuttgart lined up for you! Here's what's up:


Sept. 16-Oct. 3, Munich

At noon on the dot – Munich’s mayor will tap the first barrel and declare Oktoberfest officially open – and the festivities won’t stop until weeks later. Party till you drop in one of the seven enormous beer tents – each with its own unique décor and theme. There are now Oktoberfests throughout Germany, but the original fest started in 1810 with a celebration to mark the wedding of the Ludwig Crown Prince of Bavaria (later King Ludwig I) to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The fest became so beloved by the people it grew bigger and better each year, a tradition that continues to this day.

Craft Brewery Festival
Sept. 15-16, Bayreuth

Eleven breweries hailing from Germany, Austria, Denmark, the United States and Poland are coming together for the second annual Craft Brewery Festival. Expect unusual beer creations, many new varieties, lots of tastings, great food, fun games – including the perennial favorite, Cornhole, and more!

Rock ‘n Fellas, Rock n’ Roll Festival
Sept. 15-17, Garmisch

Get ready to party the weekend away with loud music and even louder cars during the fifth annual Rock n’ Fellas weekend festival. Hot rods to Harleys will be on display as wood-fired pit smoke and guitar rifts fill the air, welcoming visitors to enjoy good food and great music.

Food Truck Festival
Sept. 16-17, Coburg

Enjoy brunch, a delicious afternoon snack or a dinner smorgasbord with the spectacular Schlossplatz Coburg as the backdrop. From burgers to burritos to exotic dishes and mouthwatering desserts, there is definitely something for the whole family!


SWR3 New Pop Festival
Sept. 14-16, Baden-Baden

This annual music festival features some of the biggest names in music, like Rag’n’Bone Man and JP Cooper. If you don’t know the artists now, you will! May talents have “broken out” in the European theater through this open-air concert. .

Lake of Fire Festival
Sept. 14-17, Stuttgart

The lake will be festively decorated for this family friendly event. There will be musical entertainment performed by children, a storyteller performance and children’s theater. Don’t forget to check out the variety of food and beverages. 

Sept. 16, Heidelberg

REHABILITY will host a fun day for the kiddos with and without disabilties. This year’s theme is Feuerwehr (fire department). Kids will be able to experience a real fire hose, ride in a fire truck and many hands on experiences. 

Rhosemer Herbscht Farmer’s Market
Sept. 18, Rheinsheim

Get your market bags ready. Join the locals around the cathedral to purchase fresh, local produce, meats, cheeses and more. They will also have a play area for children to enjoy and live entertainment on the the Festplatz stage. The market is open 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. and is free to enter.
