Weekend What's Up: Sept. 9-11

In our monthly What’s Up magazine, our Editor’s Picks give you heads up you about eight of the best events going on in Germany. But it’s hard to just pick eight, so here’s a more inclusive list! Each week, we will give you the need-to-know for on-base and regional events.

Regions include the KMC, Rhein-Main, Stuttgart and Bavaria.




Landstuhl: Stadtfest: There is beer, food and two-stages worth of live music on Friday and Saturday.

Kaiserslautern: Wine and Music: On Friday and Saturday, enjoy music, food and wine across downtown Kaiserslautern.

Trier: Beats and Bowl: Every Friday and Saturday bowl to some awesome music and chow down on food and drinks.

Pirmasens: Palatinate Forest Marathon: Lace up your sneakers and takes part in a variety of runs occurring over multiple days.

Armstrong's Club, Vogelweh Housing (MWR): Karaoke Night: Belt out your favorite tunes!

Kleber ACS Building (MWR): Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) Support Meeting: “… held for honoring surviving families and to provide a safe place to share the unique experience of survivors with others who can relate.”

SKIES Unlimited building (MWR): Newborn Network and Breastfeeding Cafe: Meet fellow families,  New Parent Support staff and Mom2Mom breastfeeding counselors at this event.

Baumholder Warrior Zone (MWR): Music Friday Nights: Shake your groove thing until midnight.  

Smith Barracks (MWR): Baumholder Winter Hunting Course: This is the first weekend of a multi-weekend course to earn your life-long hunting certification.

USO Baumholder: Rock The Block: Party with USO, rock out to the DJ, chow down on cotton candy and play some games.



Landau: Autumn Market: Enjoy food, wine, music, traders, and an amusement park on both Saturday and Sunday.

Landstuhl Post Library (MWR): “Back to Hogwarts”:  Celebrate back-to-school season by being sorted into your house, taking a potion class, receiving your wand and more.

Landstuhl: Birth and Postpartum Doula Training: This is a 3-day English-language, in-person training for those interested in becoming a Doula. Military spouses can use MyCAA funds if they qualify.

Trier: Gin Tasteival: Meet national and regional gin exhibitors, enjoy the buffet of food and boogey down at the afterparty.  

Trier: Museum Night: Have your own “night at the museum” experience at several museums across Trier.

Kazabra Club, Vogelweh (MWR): Country Night: Play pool, ride the mechanical bull and “boot, scoot and boogie” at Country Night.

Ramstein Air Base: VRS Booster Club Annual Car Show: Enjoy the outdoors and view some gorgeous vehicles with fellow car buffs.

Tavern on the Rock, Baumholder (MWR): Karaoke Night: Belt out your favorite tunes.

Smith Barracks (MWR): 9/11 Remembrance Run: Come run for a great cause and earn a medal in the male, female, youth (11 and under), youth (12 and older) categories. There are also medal categories for runners with stroller or runners with dogs!



Pirmasens: Euroclassic Festival Orchestra: Enjoy the orchestra conducted by Gabriel Ardoján and the Rhineland-Palatinate State Philharmonic.

Baumholder Warrior Zone (MWR): Sing Along Sunday: Belt out your favorite tunes.





Frankfurt: PubCrawl Tour-Frankfurt: Meet people from all over Germany and the world and sample what the Frankfurt pubs have to offer. 

Wiesbaden: Wiesbaden Biennale: View three days of music, theater, and art pieces at this multi-day international art festival. 

Wiesbaden (MWR): Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical Jr.: You have three chances this weekend to see this family-friendly musical about the plucky Matilda.

Wiesbaden (MWR): Friday Night Scramble: Tee up with three other players and compete in this nine-hole competition. 



Frankfurt: Alice in Wonderland Outdoor Escape-Room Style Experience: The streets of Frankfurt have gone down the rabbit hole and it’s your job to find your way out of Wonderland.

Frankfurt: Quiche & Co. - The Festival in the Lyon Quarter: Enjoy French cheese, wine and quiche, great music and entertainment.

Mainz: Backyard Flea Market: Come find your next favorite outfit, jewelry piece or accessory.

Wiesbaden: International Summer Festival: Come learn about all of the diverse cultures in Wiesbaden and take part in the children’s program. 

Wiesbaden (MWR): Coffee and Cars: Show off your awesome car or just marvel at the vehicles around you at this event.  



Frankfurt: Mettbrötchen Open Air Festival: This is the inaugural festival based off the delicious onion roll. Also in attendance, will be other food and drinks and competitions.  

Frankfurt: Fabric Market Holland: All of your fabric, textile, haberdashery, pattern and textile items can be found here.  

Frankfurt: Berlin Airlift Monument Public Day: You can view two historic candy bombers as well as Jeeps and small trucks on display. Cakes and drinks will also be available.

Frankfurt: Vintage and Champagne:  Sip champagne, eat food and shop for vintage clocks, furniture and clothing.

Mainz: Citadel Festival: Enjoy live music, tons of food options, a children’s program and free admission to several museums.

Mainz: Escape Run to Paradise: Teams of two race an 8 km trail; yet, it is not that simple; tricks are placed along the way that might make the entire trek 14 km.

Wiesbaden (MWR): Sunday Movie Deep Dive: “Children ages 4-11 are invited to enjoy a movie, snacks, a story and color pages” at this fun event for kids and parents.

Wiesbaden (MWR): Music Club: Join other music enthusiasts: Tune your instrument and talk music, share skills and maybe even a tune of your own. 




USO Stuttgart: Game Night: Gamers unite for a night of video gaming, board games and finger foods.

Panzer Kaserne (MWR): Reading for Resilience Book Club: Meet once a month with fellow book lovers and discuss the book of the month.  



Marktplatz: Bike tour Stuttgart - Strasbourg – Stuttgart: Test you endurance by cycling with the Rad-Touristik-Club from Stuttgart to Strasbourg and then back to Stuttgart.

Ice World Stuttgart: Stuttgart Rebels vs. Devils Ulm/Neu-Ulm: Cheer on the Rebels as they play against Ulm in the pre-season ice hockey game.

USO Stuttgart: Family Amazing Race: Grab three friends or family members and be ready to eat some pancakes and compete in a series of challenges.

USO Stuttgart: Magic the Gathering Workshop: If you have ever wanted to learn how to play Magic AND receive a free Magic the Gathering Starter Kit and instructions, this is your chance.

Panzer Kaserne (MWR): Community Activities Registration Education (C.A.R.E.) Fair:  This annual fair “is the best opportunity to meet representatives of all kinds of organizations in USAG Stuttgart all in one location.”



Böblingen: American Power, US-Cars & Bikes: Grab a bite to eat from one of the food trucks as you look at U.S. cars, bikes, vintage vehicles and listen to live music.

Mercedes-Benz Museum: Classics and Coffee: Drink coffee and show your classic vehicle or just come look at all the amazing classic vehicles.

Messepiazza: Mettbrötchen Open Air Festival Stuttgart: Have some fun at this inaugural festival celebrating the delicious onion-ey rolls. For those not into onion, they will have other foods, drinks and competitions.

Panzer Kaserne (MWR): Run to Remember 2022: Run a 5k or half-marathon in observance of Sept. 11.





Nuremberg: Burggrabben Festival: Travel back to the Middle Ages and enjoy three days of music, fun, games, dancing and markets. 

Nuremberg: Folk Festival: Make your way here for the last three days of this festival filled with rides, food and fun.

Nuremberg: Flea Market: Find everything you need or want from clothes and books.

Munich: Monta Corti Film Festival: This 3-day short film festival is all about Italy, either by Italian film makers or the subject is film. For those viewers who speak English, it is a requirement that films must have English subtitles.

Garmisch (MWR): Garmisch Bus Tour: Hop on the bus and learn all about the area and check out the farmers’ market.



Munich: Munich Monthly Modern Magic: Gather with fellow Magic the Gathering players and attempt to win the monthly prize. 

Munich: Ed Sheeran Live: You got two chances Saturday and Sunday to see Sheeran perform live in concert.

Munich: Truderinger Weinfest: Sample wines, eat great food and listen to live music at this festival. 



Munich: Clothing Swap: Got some “good condition” clothes that don’t fit, or you just don’t wear them anymore? Don’t trash them. Swap them. 

Munich: Munich Carnival: Put on your best carnival attire and enjoy the DJs, artists, singers and more at the “ the first Afro-Caribbean and Latin American Carnival of Munich.”

Nuremberg: Court Festival: Partake in food, a castle tour, a bustling children’s program and vintage tracker parade.

Garmisch (MWR): Patriot Day Run/Walk: Run or walk with others in this 5k in observance of Sept. 11.



*Know before you go: Always check the event website before traveling to ensure it is still occurring. Also go to the event’s website to learn more about costs, regulations and any other information. Lectures and workshops on the economy will most likely occur in German but may offer alternatives for English-speakers.
