Weekend What’s Up: Sept. 30-Oct. 2

In our monthly What’s Up magazine, our Editor’s Picks give you a heads up about eight of the best events going on in Germany. But it’s hard to just pick eight, so here’s a more inclusive list! Each week, we will give you the need-to-know for on-base and regional events.

Regions include the KMC, Rhein-Main, Stuttgart and Bavaria.

 

Kaiserslautern/KMC

Friday

Landstuhl: 1990's European Cornhole League Fundraiser and Costume Party: Put on your best grunge gear, JNCO jeans or scrunchies, play some cornhole, eat some food and have fun.

Trier: Beats and Bowl: Every Friday and Saturday, bowl to some awesome music and chow down on food and drinks.

Trier: Oktoberfest in the Clubhouse Kleingärtnerverein: Show up in your dirndl and receive a free glass of sparkling wine all weekend long.

Pirmasens: Festival Euroclassic - Frauenchor ex-semble: “ The Women's Chamber Choir will present excerpts from its current repertoire.”

Homburg: Homburg Oktoberfest Continues: If you want Oktoberfest without the travel, come check out the last weekend of this event.

KMC Onstage (MWR): The Yellow Boat Performances: Go see the last weekend of performances of this moving play about a boy born with congenital hemophilia who transforms his pain into art.

Armstrong's Club, Vogelweh Housing (MWR): Karaoke Night: Belt out your favorite tunes.

Baumholder Warrior Zone (MWR): Music Friday Nights: Shake your groove thing until midnight. 

Hall of Champions Fitness Center, Baumholder (MWR): Late Night Basketball: Every last Friday of the month you can play basketball with other night owls from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Saturday

Trier: Beginning Yoga Workshop: Get insights into postures and breathing and learn the basics behind the practice of yoga.

Trier: Women's Wilderness Days: Get out into the wild with other women and learn basic survival and camping skills.

Bad Homburg: Gourmet Market: Enjoy art, crafts, food, coffee, live music and cocktails at this event.

Kazabra Club, Vogelweh (MWR): Country Night: Play pool, ride the mechanical bull and “boot, scoot and boogie” at Country Night.

Armstrong's Club, Vogelweh Housing (MWR): Latin Night: Dance and party to all of your favorite Latin styles of music.

Rolling Hills Army Golf Course, Baumholder (MWR): Open Tournament: Join this two-day golf tournament.  

Tavern on the Rock, Baumholder (MWR): Karaoke Night: Belt out your favorite tunes.

USO Baumholder: Coffee Connections: Drink coffee and connect with other military spouses while learning more about the local community.

Sunday

Homburg/Saar: The Shops are Open Sunday: Enjoy the rare Sunday when the shops are open in the city-center.

Baumholder Warrior Zone (MWR): Sing Along Sunday: Belt out your favorite tunes.

Baumholder Outdoor Recreation (MWR): UTV Guided Tours: Grab your family and friends and be guided through scenic backroads, market towns and other places in the local area.

 

Rhein-Main

Friday

Frankfurt: Oktoberfest Frankfurt 2022 - The Party Ship: Hop on the MS Rheingold and celebrate Oktoberfest on the water.

Frankfurt: Löwen Frankfurt vs. EHC Red Bull München: Cheer on the Frankfurt ice hockey team as they take on Munich.

Mainz: Best of Musicals: Theatre fans unite and listen to songs from famous musicals such as “Phantom of the Opera” and “Evita.”

Mainz: "Encounters": View the work of two artists and see how cultures, styles and artistic meaning merge at this exhibition all weekend long.

Mainz: Visionär Film Festival: This four-film festival celebrates the work of Eastern European film makers with films in multiple languages.

Wiesbaden (MWR): Individual Spouse Sponsorship Training: Learn how you can serve as a spouse sponsor.

Wiesbaden (MWR): Hearts Apart: Connect with fellow military spouses once a month who are also separated from their spouse due to deployment, TDY etc. 

Wiesbaden (MWR): A Night of One Acts: Enjoy a night of one-act plays, “I love Ruthie” as well as “The Book of Leviticus Show, The Book Media, Mrs. Sorken and Cardinal O'Connor."

Wiesbaden USO Park: Group Play: Join the New Parent Support Program and children of all ages for playtime in the park.

Saturday

Mainz: Mainz Apple Orchard with a Small Apple Festival and Apple Picking: Pick the freshest apples right from source and have fun at the festival.

Mainz: Chic Times - Mainzer KulturGärten im Schloss: Listen to this local Mainz band who covers songs from the 1970s through the modern era.

Sunday

Frankfurt: Japan Day: Enjoy a day of workshops, artists and culinary specialties.

Mainz: Ladies FIT Bootcamp: Enjoy a workout, get your body fat measurements, learn tips and tricks for fitness and enjoy giveaways at this event.

Mainz: SKATE Club Learning Event: For those 12 and older, come learn the basics of ice skating: Standing, walking and turning, and a few advanced moves for those further along.  

Wiesbaden (MWR): Sunday Movie Deep Dive: “Children ages 4-11 are invited to enjoy a movie, snacks, a story and color pages” at this fun event for kids and parents.

 

Stuttgart

Friday

Organic Kitchen: Meet the Stuttgart Team - Women in AI & Robotics: Network with fellow women in AI and Robotics as well as have a nice lunch.

USO Stuttgart: AFRICOM Olympics: Watch as personnel compete in a variety of games. You can also enjoy popcorn, cotton candy and lawn games.

Saturday

Marktplatz: Vegan Street Days: Saturday and Sunday enjoy delicious vegan street food and vendors.

Mercedesstraße: VfB Stuttgart II - FC 08 Homburg: Cheer on your favorite football (soccer) team.

Weissenburg: Queerfeministisches Festival: Enjoy artistic and culture events along with music and drinks all weekend.  

USO Stuttgart: Dungeons and Dragons Workshop: If you have ever wanted to learn how to play D&D, or just want to play with other lovers of the game, this is your chance.

Sunday

Mercedes-Benz Museum: Classics and Coffee: Drink coffee and show your classic car or just come look at all the sweet rides of the past.

Art Museum: Family Day Sunday: Tour the exhibits with a guided tour designed for families with children four and older.

Munich: Oktoberfest Continues This Weekend: This internationally known beer festival ends this weekend. Enjoy the festival as well as other fairs across Munich.

Rose Barracks (Vilseck MWR): Cosmic Bowling: Bowl some strikes with the lights turned off in this cosmic scene.

Tower Barracks (Grafenwoehr MWR): EFMP Karaoke: Connect with other EFMP families while you belt out your choice of 25,000 songs.

Munich: Model Railway Exhibition: Put on your conductor hat and blow your whistles as you look at intricate model trains, railways and displays.
