Virtual events for military families

Virtual events for military families

by Amanda Palumbo
Stars & Stripes Europe

One thing I love about the military community is our ability to take care of one another and there is no shortage of that during our quarantine days. European chapters of MWR, ACS and USO are all hosting virtual events for military families. From crafts and fitness to parties and education, here’s a list of what’s going on virtually in our community.

Getting social but still distancing

Make-it-Mondays
April 27

Get your crafternoon on with USO Kaiserslautern with their virtual craft demos each Monday at 1 p.m.

Kaffee Korner
April 29

USO Kaiserslautern is hosting a virtual coffee talk (hopefully you get the SNL reference). Interact with real humans each Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Cooking Connection
April 28

In our time of restrictions and social distancing, many are learning to cook new and exciting recipes. Every Tuesday at noon, join Ramstein’s USO for a virtual cooking class and learn how to make something new and tasty for your family.

Storytime with Ms. Lara
April 29

The lovely folks at USAG Benelux MWR are hosting storytime for kiddos at 10 a.m. I have it on good authority if you haven’t heard Ms. Lara read a book yet, you’re not living your best life.

2020 Military Spouse Symposium
April 29 & 30

Nobody quite understands the struggles of a military spouse than other military spouses. This free virtual event will have interactive sessions on education resources, federal job search and starting your own business. Sessions start at 9 a.m. each day and run through 4 p.m.

There is also an event with Taya Kyle, the wife of the late Chris Kyle who wrote the book “American Sniper.” She will discuss military relationships at 3 p.m. on April 30.

Cinco de Mayo Quarantine Party
May 5

Stuttgart Family & MWR is hosting a virtual Cinco de Mayo party. You can enjoy the very best of Salsa, Bachata, Reggaeton from the comfort of your own home via Facebook Live. Whip up your favorite Mexican food and drink and dance the night away with your family in the comfort of your own living room.

Working on your fitness

Zumba Livestream
Through May 27

USAG MWR is hosting livestream Zumba classes! Classes on Monday and Wednesdays are at 5:30 p.m. On Thursday, classes are at 9:30 a.m. Get the family together and dance like nobody is watching because nobody is.

Online Yoga
April 19 & 21

USAG Stuttgart Sports & Fitness instructor Robin will be hosting online Restorative & Vinyasa  Yoga classes. Restorative Yoga on the 19th is at 8:30 p.m., so a great way to loosen up some tension before bed. Vinyasa Yoga Class is at 11 a.m. You do need to register beforehand.

Live Yoga with Eryn
April 28 & 30

Every Tuesday and Thursday USAG Benelux MWR is hosting live yoga sessions at 9 a.m. Start your morning with enough zen to last you through the day.

Calisthenics and more with Casey
April 28 & 30

Tune in at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays to get your heart rate up and take out your frustrations through fitness. These free 30-minute sessions through USO Kaiserslautern are kid-friendly.
