The Invictus Games are coming to Germany!

Celebrate the spirit of service by attending these historical events. First held in 2014, the Invictus Games bring together wounded and injured servicemembers in competition. This international multi-sport event was founded by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and was originally inspired by the Warrior Games, hosted by the U.S. Department of Defense.

This year’s games, held in Düsseldorf, are themed “A Home for Respect” and are co-hosted by the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces). Over 500 athletes from 21 countries are represented, with Nigeria, Israel and Colombia joining for their first year.

Team USA has recently released its roster of 59 competitors, which includes members from all branches of the military.

Here is all you need to know to go cheer for your fellow servicemembers:

The Invictus Games Park

The banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf will be converted into an entire campus dedicated to the games.

  • The MERKUR SPIEL Arena is the center of activity. Both opening and closing ceremonies, plus many of the sporting events are held in the arena. Some events like track, archery, cycling and swimming take place nearby at facilities within the Invictus Games Park.
  • Invictus Village is where you can meet the competitors and learn about partners and exhibitors. The village square offers a stage program throughout the week with performances by regional artists, dance and musical groups. There will also be speaking guests and talk shows. In addition, there is a special program called the Invictus Rally offering hands-on stations throughout the village; a stamp card is available at the information booth near the entrance.
  • The Team Respect area is dedicated to bringing awareness, education and exposure to disability. Sponsored by the Bundeswehr (German armed forces), this area will have displays and experiences focused on modern orthopedic technology, prosthetics and patients showing their workplace aids.
