Kaiserslautern

Santa at the Zoo
Dec. 6, Kaiserslautern

Come see exotic animals and Saint Nick at the same time! Santa himself will make a guest appearance at Zoo Kaiserslautern from 3 - 3:30 p.m. You can also visit the zoo’s living nativity scene. Admission starts at 5 euros for children.

Christmas at Bellini's
Dec. 6, Kaiserslautern

Get in the Christmas spirit while drinking wine, dining on pizza and listening to jazzy Christmas music. Live music will play from 7-9:30 p.m. Reservations are suggested.

Craft Christmas Market
Dec. 6-8, An der Tiefburg

Craftsmen from all sorts of trades gather in Handschuhsheim for this elaborate market. There will be the usual Glühwein, waffles and more along with lots of handmade items that will make for the perfect gift this year. The market runs from 5-9 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Holiday Antique & Craft Bazaar
Dec. 7-8, Ramstein

There is still time to find that perfect gift for that special someone. Come out to the Holiday Antique & Craft Bazaar, where you can find the perfect one-of-a-kind gift for your loved ones. Hosted by 86 FSS at the Ramstein Community Center on base. On Saturday, the bazaar runs from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. 

Wiesbaden

Eltville Christmas Market
Dec. 7-8 in Eltville

The annual Christmas market of this charming village by the Rhine sprawls alongside the castle and up and down its winding alleys, as well as in the Koegler winery. The market stalls are up and running 3 p.m.-8 p.m. Sat. and noon-7 p.m. Sunday.

Idstein Christmas Market
Dec. 7-8 in Idstein

Take a half-timbered Old Town that’s beautiful to begin with, add cheerily decorated wooden booths along with a dash of music and mulled wine, and it’s a scene worthy of a Christmas card. Things to see here include a model railway exhibition in the Stadthalle and a living nativity scene in the passageway by the Town Hall. The market welcomes visitors 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.

Rock the Opera
Dec. 6 in Wiesbaden

The Kurhaus sets the scene for a night that fuses the sounds of a symphonic orchestra with the music of our times. Hear interpretations of the greatest hits of groups such as Pink Floyd, U2, Queen, AC/DC and many others. The concert takes place from 8 p.m. in the Friedrich von Thiersch Saal. Ticket prices begin at 41 euros.

Ball Night in the Kurhaus
Dec. 7 in Wiesbaden

It’s time to put on those gowns and tuxes and dance the night away- and for a good cause at that! Each year around the time of World AIDS day, the Kurhaus hosts this night of glitz, glamour and sound to benefit the local AIDS-Hilfe organization, which supports those living with AIDS and HIV. Throughout numerous rooms of the venue, live acts play, DJs spin tunes, and walking acts entertain. The star guest of the evening is American singer Turbo B. The sum of 37.86 euros will buy you a “flanierkarte,” a type of ticket which allows for entry but doesn’t come with a seat. Pick up tickets at the Wiesbaden Tourism Information point or online.

Bavaria

Nuremberg Christmas Market
Nov. 29 - Dec. 24, Nuremberg

Jingle all the way to this year’s Christmas market where endless amounts of mulled wine, spiced rum, gifts and more await your arrival. If you’re lucky, you may just get a glimpse of Santa while there! The opening ceremony is on the 29th at 5:30 p.m. Normal hours are Monday - Sunday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., and on Dec. 24 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. 

Girls Flea Market
Dec. 7, Nuremberg

Been in the mood for some new clothes? Now is the time to buy at the girl’s/women’s flea market! Shop until you drop for clothes, shoes, purses, jewelry, home decorations and more. There will be 40 stands with goods, as well as music and drinks. Open from 2 - 7 p.m. at the Mach1 Club Nürnberg. Admission is 3 euros per person on site. 

Premium Rum Tasting
Dec. 7, Bamberg

Find out what goes into making the most delicious rums, from raw ingredients to distilling techniques. You’ll get to taste five varieties of rum over the course of two and a half hours. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. at Kawenzmann. Tickets are 79 euros per person and can be purchased online

Stuttgart

Esslingen Medieval Market and Christmas Market
Nov. 26 - Dec. 22, Esslingen

Glistening lights, stalls lovingly styled with their finest Christmas decor, a children’s wonderland and so much more await you at the Christmas and Medieval Markets in Stuttgart and Esslingen this year. Opening is Friday the 26th from 4 - 8:40 p.m., otherwise open Sunday - Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., Thursday - Saturday from 11 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. and on Dec. 22 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. 

Stuttgart Christmas Market
Nov. 27 - Dec. 23, Stuttgart

The annual Stuttgart Christmas Market, Weihnachts Markt, draws over 3.5 million visitors each year. Not only is it one of the biggest markets, but it is also one of the oldest, officially dating back to 1692. With the town hall facade posing as an advent calendar, this market is bustling with Christmas magic. Open Monday - Thursday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., Friday - Saturday from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Special opening times are as follows: Nov. 27 from 5 - 9 p.m. and Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. for late-night shopping. 

Old German Christmas Market
Nov. 29 - Dec. 15, Bad Wimpfen

The Christmas season is upon us and the markets are in full swing! If the kids are tagging along, don’t miss out on the children’s theater in the town hall with performances on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The rest of the market is open Fridays from noon - 9:30 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. and Sundays 11:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. with plenty of mulled wine, sausages and gifts for all! 

Neckarau Park Run
Dec. 7, Mannheim

If you enjoy pleasure runs and getting outside first thing Saturday morning, this is the event for you! Rise and shine with this weekly 5K. Walk, jog or run as fast as you can, all abilities are welcome. Meet at 8:45 a.m., start at 9 a.m. Participation is free, but you must register online. Located at Waldpark Mannheim - Neckarau. Meet at Strandbad car park, Franzosenweg 1, 68199. After, stay for coffee or breakfast with the group at restaurant Purino.
