Perfectly paired: red wine hiking event
That classic combination of wine and hiking can be yours if you’re up for the trek to Schriesheim, an appealing town along the Bergstrasse on Feb. 2. This low-lying range of mountains is found just north of Heidelberg. From 11 a.m., the hills above the town will be alive with the sounds of revelers merrily making their way from stand to stand, where they’ll be sampling the locally produced wines and munching on hearty fares such as chili or bratwurst. Non-alcoholic beverages are available as well.
The hike begins at 11 a.m. Leave the car at home and make way to the city’s train station, a quick 25-minute ride from Heidelberg’s central station. If someone’s willing to do the driving, the address for the GPS is Heidelberger Str. 17, 69198 Schricesheim. The event is weather-dependent, so if you wake up and it’s looking miserable, check the website to be sure it’s still a go.
