The Basics

On Saturday, August 3, 2019, the series of concerts offered at the Luitpold Grove in Nuremburg, Germany continues. This specific concert will feature the illustrious Nuremburg Symphony Orchestra and the event will take place from 8-11 p.m. As with all concerts hosted at this venue, admission is free to all attendees. Donations may be given through the purchase of a bird pin which is designed each year leading up to the seasons’ festivities. Pins run for a minimum of five euros per pin, however larger donations are gratefully accepted.

Venue History

The original purpose of the venue was to hold political rallies leading up to World War II, specifically by the Nazi party. The concrete arena held thousands of German citizens and was the location of several political speeches. Over the years, the focus of events hosted here has shifted from politics to music. In fact, since the year 2000, it has been devoted to the open-air concert experience.

The Goal

Hosts of the open-air concert series along with partners such as Sparda-Bank and Schmidt, strive to make classical music accessible and expose it to those whom would not normally listen, free of charge. The easy-going environment has allowed the venue to be used in a more positive manner than in its past. The main goal is to spread music appreciation and leave the negativity associated with the location in the past.

The annual concert series in Nuremburg has gained tremendous popularity over the past nineteen years, attracting around 160,000 visitors each year according to the event’s webpage. The goal set forth by the hosts and partners seems to have been accomplished time and time again, opening young people’s eyes specifically to the classical music that is so adored by organizers.
