With the last fall leaves fluttering to the ground, the holidays are in full force. Bustling Christmas markets have sprung up in the middle of village squares. After visiting a few, you may have realized that many of them sell similar gifts and trinkets, and the crowded cobblestone alleys can be difficult to navigate. Take a break from the traditional festivities and visit the Romantic Waldweihnacht in Johanniskreuz.

Dwarfed by towering evergreens, more than 70 eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable vendors will be offering handcrafted goods and delectable regional dishes. Bonfires and Schwedenfackel (Swedish torches) light up the market and night sky. Enjoy festive melodies from brass bands and alpshorn musicians while sipping on organic Glühwein. You can find specialty meats, such as wild boar, venison and sausages, as well as chestnuts, trout, potato dumplings and more. There will be plenty of hands-on crafts, pony rides and a carousel for little ones.
