Enjoy carefree fun at Fruehlingsfest
Warm sunshine has finally arrived and colorful blooms abound. Spring has arrived in Germany with gusto! Celebrate the awakening of the season in Stuttgart during Frühlingsfest — one of the largest spring festivals in Europe. For three weeks, the 35-acre Cannstatter Wasen festival grounds on the banks of the Neckar River are transformed into a wonderland of rides, food and fun.
The slightly smaller sibling to the Cannstatter Volkfest held in the fall, Frühlingsfest has something for everyone. Feel an adrenaline rush on dizzying thrill rides, or drink in a stunning view of the city from the 47-meter-tall Ferris wheel. If all the excitement leaves you with a little vertigo, take a break and peruse one of the 50 vendors selling handcrafted wares. Or stop in one of the beer tents sponsored by Stuttgarter Hofbräu, Dinkelacker, or Schwabenbräu and enjoy a refreshing brew or two.
Know before you go
This year, Frühlingsfest takes place from Saturday, April 15 to Sunday, May 7. Every Wednesday is Family Day, with special events for children and families. On May 7, be sure to stay until closing for a dazzling musical fireworks display. Admission to the festival is free; however, you’ll have to leave Fido or Fifi at home, as no pets are allowed.
Hours: Monday to Thursday: noon to 11 p.m.; Friday: noon to midnight; Saturday: 11 a.m. to midnight; Sunday and holidays: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
