Countdown to Christmas: Celebrate in Bamberg
The historic center of Bamberg is the location for 70 quaint stands, vendors offer culinary delights, handmade decorations, textiles, and hot beverages, including wine, beer and liquid chocolate. An interesting tradition here is the Christmas mangers spread throughout the city and outlying areas. Within the old city center are 36 nativity-scene stations for visitors to view — which give Bamberg its nickname of “Nativity Town.”
Christmas market dates: Nov. 24-Dec. 23, 2016
Helpful hints: Parking is available below the market and at various lots in the city. The cheapest option is to find a hotel in town with onsite parking. Bamberg is small and easy to navigate on foot.
Since U.S. forces were previously stationed in the area, many businesses are familiar with VAT forms, so bring a couple along to save on purchases.
Beyond the market: There are 16 museums in town and 14 in the surrounding areas, as well as nine breweries, plenty of affordable restaurants and antique shops.
