Quick and easy after school snacks
When the kids get home from school and the backpacks hit the floor, the first thing they charge toward is the fridge. After a long day of learning, kids want a snack that is quick and easy. Here are some ideas to tide over hungry bellies until dinner is ready.
- 1 tortilla
- 2 tbsp Nutella
- 1 banana
- Strawberries- optional
Place tortilla on cutting board and spread with Nutella. Peel banana and lay on the edge of the tortilla. Roll banana into the tortilla, slice into equal round portions and arrange on plate with cut edge facing up. Garnish with strawberries if desired. Serves 1.
- 1 Fuji apple
- ¼ cup creamy peanut butter, melted
- ¼ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted
- 1 handful of chocolate chips for sprinkling
Arrange apple slices on a plate. Drizzle melted peanut butter over apple with a spoon. Repeat with melted chocolate. Sprinkle a handful of chocolate chips over the apple as a topping. Serve immediately.
- Saltine crackers
- Spaghetti sauce
- Italian shredded cheese
- Mini pepperonis
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place saltine crackers flat on cookie sheet. Add sauce, cheese, and pepperoni to each cracker. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Let cool and enjoy.
- 4 cups Honey Nut Cheerios
- 1 cup raisins or craisins
- 1 cup whole almonds
- 1 bag chocolate candies of your choice
In a large bowl, add all measured ingredients. Stir and divide into Ziploc bags to keep fresh.
- Sliced chicken or turkey
- Sliced cheese
- Sea salt
Slice cucumber, tomato and avocado into ¼ inch thick slices. Cut sliced chicken or turkey and cheese into ½ inch wide pieces. Layer the veggies, cheese and meat between two cucumber slices and hold them together with a toothpick. Sprinkle with sea salt.
- 1 cup blueberries
- ½ cup vanilla or fruit flavored yogurt
Place a berry on a toothpick and dip in yogurt. Place berry on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Repeat until all berries are covered in yogurt. Freeze for an hour. Serve or place in a container in the freezer.
These simple-ingredient and easy to make snacks are sure to be a hit with your hungry crew. Make ahead of time or with the kids as an activity. Either way, they will walk away satisfied and you can be happy they are eating moderately healthy snacks.
