Work it out with Reconnection Workshops
It’s an understatement to say deployments are never easy. Being separated from loved ones in an unknown environment for months at a time is taxing on relationships and families. When servicemembers return, homecomings are joyous and happy occasions. Then reality sets in. Life has gone on and trying to reintegrate back into your routine can prove challenging. Reconnection Workshops offered through the American Red Cross can help.
Available to servicemembers, their families and significant other across all branches of the armed forces, Reconnection Workshops help to reconnect and reunite families after deployments. Offering five workshops — Communicating Clearly, Identifying Depression, Relating to Children, Exploring Stress and Trauma, and Working Through Anger — these courses are taught by licensed mental health professionals.
Reconnection Workshops are not therapy sessions, but rather skill-building group lessons that teach participants how to approach different challenges to life after deployment and how to navigate through them together. Workshops differ from services offered through the military, as they are hands-on, available to anyone affiliated with a military servicemember, and are not mandatory.
Sharing personal information during the classes is voluntary. The programs are confidential and no details are shared. Reconnection Workshops are offered throughout the year and are also available upon request. For more information, visit redcross.org or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
