Cayenne and honey: Home-made congestion and cough remedy

It’s that time of year where allergies are creeping up and sickness is spreading all around. Even my husband has had the same persistent cough for two weeks now! After searching for natural remedies, I came across a combo of honey and cayenne pepper to relieve his sore throat. Not only does it work ­– it’s also delicious! I’ve been using it as a spread on my toast in the morning, while my husband just takes it by the spoonful.

Other than fighting allergies and sicknesses, cayenne can also add a whole bunch of nutritional value to your daily diet! Here are just some of its amazing benefits:

Breaks up and moves congested mucus

Once mucus begins to leave the body, relief from flu symptoms generally follows. Goodbye irritating persistent coughs!

Helps prevent migraines

This may be related to the pepper’s ability to stimulate a pain response in a different area of the body. Basically your brain gets distracted by the spiciness of the pepper and forgets to torment you with that headache.

Aids in digestion

It stimulates the digestive tract, increasing the flow of enzyme production and gastric juices. This aids the body’s ability to metabolize food and toxins.

Useful to rid of blood clots

It helps dilate arteries and blood vessels, which might help remove blood clots.

Can be used as a detox

When cayenne heats up the body, the natural process of detoxing occurs (stimulates lymphatic and digestive system). It also helps us sweat, another helpful way to detox.

Joint pain relief

Cayenne does this by causing temporary pain on the skin, which sends chemical messengers from the skin into the joint, offering relief for joint pain.

Now that you know some of the great benefits of cayenne, make this simple recipe to benefit your overall health:

Ingredients:
1-cup honey
2 tbsp. cayenne pepper (spice)

Instructions:
All you need to do is warm up the honey for 15 seconds in a glass jar, add cayenne pepper and stir. That’s it!
