Tired of the same old routine of brats and Döner? Are you looking to try something completely unique and exotic without the worry of leaving disappointed or overpaying?

Whether you are new to the area or have been settled for a while, Safari Restaurant is a dining experience you won’t want to miss. Safari has been the long-standing, number one restaurants in Kaiserslautern, Germany and for great reason. This Ethiopian restaurant, located in the heart of Kaiserslautern, offers exceptional food with explosions of unique flavors, hands on eating — literally — and superb customer service. They have an array of different Ethiopian cuisine. Whether you favor vegetarian or succulent meat dishes, there is no compromise on flavor. It’s always best to start with an Ethiopian coffee, served with the traditional side of popcorn. Yes, popcorn and coffee. If it’s too late for coffee or you're not in the mood, the exotic beers are a great option and come in a range of different fruit flavors that are served out of a dried gourd.

For starters, they have a marvelous, yet simple salad that hits the spot every time. If you are looking for something meaty, they offer delicious spiced meat pastries, which will prepare your taste buds for the main course. Entrées include savory lentils, fluffy couscous, Ethiopian-style vegetables, ground chickpeas and spicy meats. Safari offers three different types of meat: lamb, chicken and beef, usually served with a cooked egg. They offer platters for two or four people, which give you many options all in one.

Along with all the main dishes you will be provided Injera rolls. Similar to a crepe, Injera is used in place of utensils to scoop up each bite and really adds to the fun of the experience.  It is this experience that makes it so enjoyable to go in groups — individuals come together and share in a communal way. Something about eating with your hands and off the same plate as your friends or family helps your guard drop and feel more connected with each other.

Not only is the food delicious and nourishing, it’s also healthy and very affordable. The staff is incredibly kind and humble, and they deliver a carefree and relaxed environment for you to unwind in. Being a family-owned and operated business, it’s not uncommon to see the patrols hug the staff and thank them for their terrific services. In fact, due of the overwhelming positive response from the community, reservations are likely required to secure a spot at the hottest restaurant in the Kaiserslautern Military Community.

If you are looking for something to switch up the routine, this is certainly the place. Be careful though, it is so wonderful that it may just become your new routine eatery.
