Date-night dining: Schlemmerscheune, Hotel Degen
Hotel Degen’s “Gourmet Barn” provides a wide variety of German favorites and European cuisine in memorable surroundings. Enjoy a multi-course feast in the barrel-vaulted wine cellar or airy, wood-beamed loft.
If you love seafood, start with a skewer of sizeable shrimp garnished with almonds, honey and field greens. Eagerly await your next dish after slurping every drop of the buttery lobster soup or decadent horseradish cream soup.
Return several times for Degen’s scrumptious main courses including German favorites of rump steak smothered in Gorgonzola cream sauce and pork loin with chanterelle gravy. Branch out to try the house specialties, such as sesame-coated chicken breast drizzled with orange cream or mild sole in a lobster cream sauce. Vegetarian and seasonal items are also available.
Hotel Degen is open for lunch Tuesday to Friday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and for dinner daily from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. See www.hotel-degen.de for more information.
