Brews and burgers at De Belgian Bistro
Tucked away behind PENNY Markt and ALDI in Weilerbach, this unassuming restaurant packs quite a punch. Offering up standard pub fare of burgers, wings and schnitzel, the true allure behind this hidden gem is the astounding variety of genuine Belgian beers offered. With more than 200 brews on the menu, there is truly something for every taste.
I had the opportunity to try out De Belgian Bistro during our first week in Germany. The waitstaff was friendly, patient and knowledgeable. When I inquired about a particular burger on the menu, our server was refreshingly honest and suggested I try a different one. I had the Bistro Burger, which was a little more on the rare side, but still delicious. I would recommend using a knife and fork for these burgers — they tend to get pretty messy. The generous portion of pommes frites accompanying the sandwich was fried to golden-brown perfection.
The fun, raucous atmosphere adds to the charm of the bistro. Sporting events are shown live on the big-screen TVs, with all-you-can-eat-wings offered on Mondays. Missing your favorite karaoke spot? Come belt out your favorite tunes during the frequent karaoke nights.
The true draw to this pub is the beer. There are plenty to choose from — dubbels, trippels, blonds, bruns, trappists and more. Every so often, some of the more elusive and exclusive brews are served, including Trappist Westvleteren 12. Even if beer isn’t quite your taste, there is an extensive wine list available. Just remember — Belgian brews tend to have a higher alcohol content than American and German beers.
