My family and I took a day trip to Strasbourg, France. We loved everything about this city: its beautiful architecture, river boat rides, chocolate shops and fairy-tale-like atmosphere.

After we toured the Strasbourg Cathedral, it was a sizzling 90°F outside. We decided to cool off with some gelato. As I searched on Google Maps for a nearby gelato shop, Amorino came up. We walked no more than 500 feet from the cathedral and arrived at our destination.

Amorino was crowded, and this was the first time I had to wait in a line for more than a few minutes to order gelato in Europe. However, as soon as I looked up at the menu, I understood why.  What Amorino is most famous for is the shape of their gelato. You pick as many gelato flavors as you want, and the scoops come perfectly shaped like a rose. The cost depends on the size of the cone or cup you want, not the number of flavors you choose. You have the option to top your gelato with a macaron of your choice for the perfect centerpiece to your rose-shaped dessert.

I ordered the small cone and chose dark chocolate, caramel and cookie flavors. I was mesmerized by how the staff delicately scooped and shaped the gelato to blossom into a rose. My mouth was watering as I decided on a macaron flavor. You would have a hard time choosing between mango, vanilla, strawberry, coffee, caramel, chocolate and pistachio macarons too. I ended up picking vanilla, and I’m so glad I did.

As I took my first bite, I fell in love. The mix of wonderful flavors and added sweetness from the creamy, vanilla macaron made this the perfect treat. I was finished in under five minutes and regret not going back for more.

My experience at Amorino was magical. For the longest time gelato has been my favorite dessert. I never knew there was a better version of it out there. However, it’s not practical for me to make a day trip to Strasbourg every time I’m craving this glorious dessert. I did some research to see if there were any other Amorino shops closer to me. I found that there are Amorino gelato shops all around the world! They are in almost every country in Europe! They also have locations across the United States, which will be great for whenever I move back.

Now I know when I make my next day trip to Heidelberg or plan a week long trip to Spain, I can make a stop at my new favorite gelato shop, Amorino.
