Celebrate Pfalz culture at Kerchemer Bierwoche
The 16th Kerchemer Bierwoche is underway in the city of Kirchheimbolanden, 30 kilometers northeast from Kaiserslautern, a treat for locals and visitors alike. Only held every other year, this tiny town of less than 8,000 residents goes all out to celebrate the culture of Rhineland-Pfälz through locally produced food and drink.
This year, from June 16 to June 18, Kirchheimbolanden will be hosting what’s touted as “the largest beer spectacle in the state.” Friday, June 16, there will be festivities ranging from a dance performance by Kalli Koppolt to a town parade to a huge party with DJs. Saturday will feature the musical talents of Musikkapelle Wangen and Stimmung & Gaudi. Sunday boasts Michael Morgan as the headliner, with party bands and guggen music galore. If you stick around until 5 p.m., you might even be able to catch the coronation of the new Braugerstenkönigin (bubbly beer queen) and Bierkönig (beer king).
Throughout the week there will be local culinary specialties featured with a great variety of beer from more than 60 local breweries. The city center will be stuffed with stands selling locally produced goods and products in addition to copious food and drink. For more information, visit www.volksfeste-in-deutschland.de.
