Happy 600th anniversary to the Bad Dürkheim Wurstmarkt! Despite its name, which mean "sausage market," this festival is known as the world's largest wine festival. More than 600,000 visitors gather in the spa town of Bad Dürkheim each September to celebrate the harvest season. Enjoy the view from the top of the giant Ferris wheel, and sample more than 150 wines from the region while enjoying live music and tasty German streetfare.

Every second weekend in September, 900,000 participants make their way to historical sites and monuments througout The Netherlands to take part in Open Monumentendag or "Heritage Days." Eight to 85 percent of historic sites and monuments throughout the country offer free admission to the public on these days to encourage visitors to strike an interest in and deepen their understanding of the historical places in need of protection and preservation. Many locations also organize special performances, exhibitions and tours.
