Kieler Woche, or Kiel Week, began as a simple sailing competition in the coastal city of Kiel, and has grown into the world’s largest sailing event and one of the largest volksfests in northern Europe. In addition to the maritime festivies, there are plenty of musical and culinary delights to enjoy. Be sure to catch the Windjammerparade of more than 100 tall ships the day before the nine-day festival closes.
