Speed limits imposed on roadways due to heat

Due to the rising temperatures in excess of 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit), officials will be implementing speed limit reductions to 80 kilometers per hour on sections of the autobahns.  Portions of A6 and A5 in Baden-Württemberg are affected, and other roadways may also see reductions.

Excessive heat can cause unpredictable buckling and cracking of older sections of the autobahn. In order to help protect drivers and vehicles, slower speeds can help reduce damage should this occur.  These limits will go into effect from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., starting today.
