Due to the rising temperatures in excess of 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit), officials will be implementing speed limit reductions to 80 kilometers per hour on sections of the autobahns.  Portions of A6 and A5 will be affected, including a 12.5-kilometer section on A5 from Walldorf to Schwetzingen, as well as ten kilometers on the opposite side from Schwetzingen toward Walldorf.

Excessive heat can cause unpredictable buckling and cracking of older sections of the autobahn. In order to help protect drivers and vehicles, slower speeds can help reduce damage should this occur.  These limits will go into effect from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., starting today, Thursday, June 23 and will be lifted on Saturday, June 25.
