Germany Top 5: Firework shows
Electrifying vibrant colors dominating the night sky followed by a loud bang can only mean one thing — fireworks. These pyrotechnic light shows gather families and friends to become transfixed as they see magic in front of their eyes. Start and end summer with a bang (literally) by witnessing these five sparkling firework displays.
Rhine in Flames
Rhine in Flames is a firework spectacle that takes place along the most scenic stretches of the Rhine River. Illuminated riverboats beneath mesmerizing patterns of light in the sky creates a romantic and unforgettable experience for the whole family. There’s always a traditional wine festival or similar celebration happening at the same time near each starting point that offers stands of specialty German food and local drink. Hop on a boat or watch from the riverbank where there will be music and dancing.

Synchronized to music, the Cologne Lights is a firework show to behold as the black sky will not only be illuminated with explosions of colors, but the city will also be dancing along to the music that synchronizes with the fireworks. The event kicks off in the afternoon where Cologne’s Tanzbrunnen — a stage made for shows — will also be open for performances. In the evening before the firework display, 50 decorated ships will leave from the port area of Cologne and will cruise toward the city center to witness the amazing show.

Heidelberg Castle Illumination
Known as one of the best events worldwide, the Castle Illumination and Neckar fireworks are an event not to be missed this summer. The picturesque Heidelberg Castle is illuminated with red flames, paying tribute to its history. After the flames die down, a new dazzling firework show begins over the Neckar River. To catch the best views, head to the north banks of the Necker and Philosopher’s Walk. Local ships, the Old City and the castle itself are all great viewing spots as well.

Rhine River Lights
Rhine River Lights is an extravaganza throughout the summer that is celebrated exclusively onboard. Boats cruise down the most picturesque parts of the Rhine offering views of medieval castles and monasteries. A stopover at one of the charming Rhine-side towns, wine tastings, live music and dancing are included on this adventure, as well as a finale of fireworks where every spot on the boat is a “front-row seat.” If you’re not out on the water, towns, castles and fortresses along the Rhine River will shine in a bright hue of red from the bengal fire — flare candles used to illuminate buildings.

Considered the oldest wine festival in Germany, an impressive and elaborate program of activities has been planned out to entertain every guest. The last day of this festival concludes with “The Mosel River in Fire Magic” — a pyrotechnic display that’s sure to wow its audience. The setting of the show in a canyon of the Mosel River makes for a heightened experience with the explosions echoing off the mountainside.
