Embracing technology at the Frankfurt Book Fair
For more than 500 years, the Frankfurt Book Fair has remained at the forefront of the literary publishing world. With more than 7,000 exhibitors from 100 countries around the globe, it is one of the largest book fairs in the world. Unique to the fair this year is the showcasing of immersive technology in the world of written word.
With the emerging trend of virtual reality (VR), authors and publishers are exploring uncharted territory with digital media. Visitors can step into the imagined world of books. Visit Jimmy Liao’s, “All My World is You” and interact with the main character. You can participate in different challenges with the goal of making her smile. Or visit other VR experiences to see the perspective of a story from different character viewpoints.
Along with these VR simulations, educational publishers will be featuring a “Classroom of the Future.” Educators and students can explore a hands-on classroom with the latest developments in not only print, but also digital apps and 3D printing.
The Frankfurt Book Fair opens Oct. 19, however it will only be open to the public Oct. 22-23. There will be bag inspections as your enter the expo hall, so please allow for extra time and leave large bags behind. For more information or to purchase tickets online, visit www.buchmesse.de/en/fbf.
