On April 18, Stars and Stripes celebrates 75 years of continuous operations of the U.S. military and Stars and Stripes Europe. To commemorate this milestone anniversary, Stars and Stripes will host a public news panel at the Officers’ Club on Ramstein Air Base from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 20th — Armed Forces Day.

Military ID card holders are invited to sit in on the unscripted discussion of how NATO’s role in the defense of Europe has evolved over the years, including changes since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the eastern expansion, assertiveness of Russia and what the challenges are going forward.

Topic: Common securities in uncommon times: Does NATO still matter?

Special guests will be in attendance, including …

  • Moderator Stars and Stripes Senior Editor Robert Reid, former Chief of the Associated Press Bureau in Berlin.
  • Panelists: General (Ret) Mark A. Welsh III, former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force; Thomas Wiegold, Berlin-based reporter focusing on defense and security affairs of the German armed forces for NDR and Der Spiegel, and U. S. European Command representatives.

To be part of the audience at this informative and engaging panel, send an email to memberservices[at]stripes[dot]com by April 30.
